On the 22nd of January 2018, Maeve von Heynitz, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Ireland in Berlin, and the First Secretary Denise McQuade visited the Institute for Sorbian Studies and the Research Centre for Minority Languages at the University of Leipzig. The meeting was moderated by Dr. habil. habil. Sabine Asmus, a Research Associate at the Institute for Sorbian Studies. Together with guests and students they discussed relations between Ireland and Germany at a time of impending Brexit; exchange programs for Irish students to Leipzig; future study opportunities for students; and the creation of a scientific and cultural network between German cities. There were also representatives of local political parties in attendance. At the end of the meeting, students of Irish sang Gaeilge songs and Sarah Jost performed some traditional Céilí dances.
