5.12. Introducing Menna Elfyn

The Institute for Sorbian studies and the students society Eriu introduce the Welsh-language author Menna Elfyn (for further info, see https://mennaelfyn.co.uk) to the Leipzig public with a reading in the Literaturhaus Leipzig.

Menna Elfyn was born in South Wales and is one of the best known Welsh-language writers in Wales. She writes poems, plays (some of them performed in the Broadway) as well as children's and non-fictional books. Her works were translated into many languages.

Apart from every-day life issues she has been discussing feminist and ecological topics in her works. She has been active in campaigns for the Welsh language and for peace in her own country and abroad. In recent years she has been contributing to the poetry network of minority languages Multiple Versions. Since 2014 she has been Professor for poetry and creative writing at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David.

Menna Elfyn will read her poems in Welsh and students and staff the German as well as some Upper and Lower Sorbian versions.
